Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is 14 km / 8 mi from Golden, one hour from Lake Louise, and roughly two hours west of Banff. Kicking Horse is named for an 1858 event when Sir James Hector was presumed dead after being kicked by a horse. He regained consciousness just before burial.

Summer

The resort is home to the world’s largest Grizzly Bear Refuge. This educational and conservational refuge is a home for Boo, a resident 7-year-old grizzly bear. You can talk with refuge researchers, visit bear exhibits and try to spot Boo! The resort offers summer tours, programs and a sightseeing gondola. The gondola provides access to the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant. Other summer activities include lift-assisted mountain biking and hiking. Bike rentals are available.

Winter

The resort is known as the ‘Champagne Powder Capital of Canada’ for its abundant dry snow. You can access the summit with a single gondola ride. Guests will enjoy après ski in the Eagle’s Eye restaurant.
