This pristine 74 km (46 mi) fast-flowing waterway adds scenic interest to the Hwy 40 recreation corridor, including the Kananaskis Golf Course. The dam controlled class 2 section (with class 3 rapids) downstream of Barrier Lake is used for watersports—rafters, kayakers, canoeists and riverborders revel in the scheduled releases of water. Highlights include Widowmaker drop (day use area with parking, Map A, 10N), Point Break hole, Santa Claus and Green tongue surfing waves, and Canoe Meadows slalom course with manmade features (day use area with parking, Map A, 10N). The Kananaskis ends at the Bow River.
