A 640 km (398 mile) stretch along Hwy 22 between Mayerthorpe to the north and Pincher Creek to the south, the Cowboy Trail is full of geographic and historic gems relating to Alberta’s pioneering heritage. Along the way is Rocky Mountain House with a National Historic Site retelling the story of Canada’s fur trade. Further south, visit Sundre’s pioneer museum. Past Calgary are towns like Millarville which has a great farmers’ market during summer, Turner Valley where crude-oil was discovered in Alberta, Black Diamond and Longview. Past Longview is the Bar U Ranch with intriguing historical exhibits.
