Each year Where Winnipeg hosts The Silver Plume Awards to recognize excellence in this city’s hospitality industry. All of this year’s 31 nominees represent the cream of the crop – Winnipeg’s best in guest service. It was clear by each nomination that they are all very highly regarded at their property, and that they make a difference to many people.
This year’s Bell Desk Silver Plume award goes to Kit Ho, Inn at the Forks.
Kit is a team player who comes to his job with a very wide skill-set he puts to use every day. He doesn’t just go the extra mile, for his team. He literally went an extra 6 miles in the Manitoba Marathon when one of his team mates didn’t show up! Kit has stepped up and became a translator for a delegation from China, he has saved the day by driving guests to meetings, and changed a tire for a guest. Kit has even driven people to the airport after his shift when the taxi has been late.
This year’s Front Desk/Guest Services Silver Plume award goes to Colleen Bother, The Fairmont Winnipeg.
Colleen sets such a high standard for going above and beyond. In fact her name should be changed to Colleen NO BOTHER! Because Nothing is a bother for her! She consistently looks for ways to exceed expectations, and routinely wows them with her thoughtfulness. And on top of that, Colleen is passionate about Winnipeg. She loves this city, and enthusiastically promotes local businesses, restaurants and events in an effort to deliver an outstanding experience for her guests.
This year’s Food Service Silver Plume award goes to Maria Le Hingrat, The Fairmont Winnipeg.
The winner in this category was chosen for her warmth towards guests, and quick problem solving. For more than 20 years this woman has been greeting guests by name and making a positive impression on them. She stays past her shift to help out with a busy rush, and presents an exceptional attitude under pressure toward guests and her team mates. This is what makes Maria Le Hingrat Silver Plume worthy!
This year’s Housekeeping Silver Plume award goes to Jun Ning, Holiday Inn Winnipeg-South.
This year’s winner began working at the Holiday Inn South immediately upon immigrating from China with limited English. However, this language “challenge” has actually been an asset! Her ability to converse and translate for foreign guests makes it possible to assist with travel information and explain how to use a shower curtain so as not to flood the hotel!
This year’s Kitchen Silver Plume award goes to Sherwin Saribay, The Four Points by Sheraton.
This category’s Silver Plume Award is going to someone who has displayed nothing short of remarkable growth in the two years he has been with the hotel. After only two months of training in his new role in the kitchen, this person has earned a rightful place as one of the cooks. Today, he can do the work of three people! He cooks breakfast and lunch, helps complete the prep list, and keeps the dish area spotless, all with a smile on his face.
