Nuit Regular is hardly the only gourmet Thai chef in Toronto, but of late she’s certainly been the most prolific. Formerly of Sukho Thai and Khao San Road (both of which remain open), chef Regular recently decamped to the kitchen of Sabai Sabai, a vintage-styled spot that specializes in contemporary takes on Southeast Asian comfort food, presented in distinct formats for lunch and dinner. Midday diners can enjoy single-plate offerings like crispy fish with tamarind sauce ($12) and the chef’s famous khao soi ($12)—plus a significant number of vegan dishes—while dinner service focuses on shareable tapas fare. Toast your meal with a pint of Beerlao, the rice-based national brew of Laos.  —Craig Moy
