This season’s jam-packed schedule is bursting at the (very chic) seams with designer runway shows and exclusive parties. Designers to Watch
Toronto fashion-scene veteran Ula Zukowska presents her Spring 2010 collection of artistic and wearable clothing. Zukowska is known for her avant-garde aesthetic—daring shapes created with unconventional fabrics. Mainstage 5 p.m.
The Gotstyle Made in Canada group show showcases the national designers and manufacturers carried at this King West menswear boutique. The only Canadian retail store with a runway show at Fashion Week, Gotstyle will feature business wear, athletic apparel and casual men’s fashions from both established designers and up-and-coming local brands. A day after his Project Runway competitor Evan Biddell’s spring showcase, award-winning Romanian-born designer Lucian Matis sends his latest, much-anticipated offerings out onto the runway. Mainstage, 7 p.m.
Shop the Shows
Adventurous fashionistas looking to turn heads can find couture by Ula Zukowska at her Yorkville boutique Y5 (5 Yorkville Ave., 416-920-9173), where innovative clothing and accessories and sporadic trunk sales help the designer maintain a loyal following.
Dapper gents looking to expand their wardrobes head to Gotstyle The Menswear Store. With comfortable chairs, flat-screen TVs, an on-site barbershop and fashions from over 45 labels, this is clothing haven offers an exclusive, club-like atmosphere.
And if you’re loony for Lucian Matis’s latest looks, they can be found uptown at Magnolia and Paola Di (3357 Yonge St., 416-322-0430).
Tonight, Hoax Couture presents the Dare to Wear Love fashion show, at which 25 of Canada’s top fashion designers, including Lida Baday and Greta Constantine, send special guest star models down the runway in spectacular couture constructed from fabrics sourced in Africa.
