Basilio Pesce

Enjoy Rustic Italian Done Right at Porzia

Basilio Pesce's Porzia is popular in Parkdale

Basilio Pesce’s Porzia is popular in Parkdale

One might argue that chef Basilio Pesce flew somewhat under the radar while toiling in the big-name kitchens of Bymark, Canoe and Biff’s. Much to diners’ benefit, Pesce now boasts a restaurant of his own, and his considerable culinary skills are on full display. At Porzia, the chef conjures rustic Italian dishes—from chicken liver agnolotti ($16) to octopus ($20)—delicious enough to make you forget that Toronto has long been saturated with establishments operating under similar conceits. Already quite popular in Parkdale, the designer dining room can get a little loud, but with food this savoury, you won’t have much need for conversation.  —Craig Moy
