It’s no secret that Canadians frequently fly out of the U.S. to save on airfare, and Parliament may finally be taking notice. A senate committee is urging Ottawa to eliminate the rent it charges federally owned airports, a cost that is passed on to travellers, and that it ultimately release its ownership of Canadian airports. A pilot program rolled out Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in 2010 allowing faster screening times for Canadians (and Canadian permanent residents) returning to Canada has been deemed a success, despite early misgivings, and is now being rolled out to other Canadian airports, the Canada Border Services Agency announced Friday.
