JULY 19 TO SEPTEMBER 14  Thanks to advances in medicine and social norms, it can be easy to forget that the outbreak of AIDS in the 1980s was accompanied by a wave of fear and discrimination. At the time, the epidemic’s harsh realities were captured by Tony Kushner’s unprecedented play, Angels in America. Still impactful more than two decades after its publication, the Pulitzer Prize-winning work comes to the Toronto stage courtesy of Soulpepper Theatre Company and director Albert Schultz. A timeless story about personal identity, community, prejudice and faith, the drama is performed in two separate parts that are best experienced chronologically. Young Centre for the Performing Arts, $51 to $68; call 416-866-8666 or visit here for showtimes and tickets.  —Sam Cheung
