- Kicking off the season this July is Backbeat, which follows a few talented Liverpudlians trying to make it big in the music industry. Yes, those Liverpudlians. John, Paul, George, Ringo—plus original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe and drummer Pete Best—are depicted during The Beatles' formative Hamburg years in this musical, direct from London's West End and inspired by the 1994 film of the same name. With early rock ‘n’ roll classics like Love Me Do, Twist and Shout, and Please Mr. Postman on the program, this production is primed to have audiences singing along and dancing in their seats.

- The madcap Sister Act, based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, makes its Canadian premiere in October. When saucy lounge singer Deloris witnesses a crime, she’s placed in protective custody in the last place anyone would suspect—a convent. Hilarity ensues (and redemption is attained) as the fast-paced story unfolds and the gospel-by-way-of-Motown music is belted out.

- Audiences can follow the yellow brick road into January 2013 with an update of the timeless The Wizard of Oz. Broadway legends Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber have retained classic numbers like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and We’re Off to See the Wizard, but also fleshed out the story with brand new songs for such characters as the Wicked Witch of the West and the Great and Powerful Oz himself. This production is also set to feature an all-Canadian cast, which will make its North American premiere in Toronto before touring the United States.

- Mirvish arguably saves its best offering for last—it's presenting Broadway smash The Book of Mormon in May 2013. South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, in collaboration with Robert Lopez of Avenue Q fame, bring this story of Mormon missionaries in Uganda to the stage. Winner of nine 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the provocative satire has the potential to play to long-run success in Toronto, a city that can always use a bit of extra good humour.
