October Hot Date: Cirque du Soleil

Performers in Cirque du Soleil's Ovo
photo by Benoit Fontaine © 2009 Cirque du Soleil Productions Inc.ON NOW Cirque du Soleil sets up its big top for a performance that brings the microscopic world of insects to majestic life. Ovo, the latest touring production from the renowned Montreal troupe, unearths the hidden life of caterpillars, spiders, ladybugs and butterflies, flying and crawling about their daily lives. Rhythmic Brazilian beats—think samba, forró and carimba—electrify the arena as 53 circus artists contort their bodies into unimaginable positions, juggle objects—and each other—swing from a trapeze and walk across a tightrope, in a lesson about the circle of life that combines science with a dash of surreality. The Grand Chapiteau at the Port Lands on Cherry Street, Tuesday to Saturday 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 4 p.m., Sunday 1 and 5 p.m., $45.50 to $130; call 1-800-450-1480 or click here to buy.
