There’s Much More Than Sushi at Toronto’s JaBistro

Seeking sushi in Toronto can sometimes be a frustratingly binary proposition: go for the cheap but not terribly exciting likes of California or spicy salmon rolls, or save up for a decadent omakase meal. JaBistro now presents an alternative. Though still somewhat pricey, the Entertainment District hot spot earns its accolades with an eclectic spread of elevated sashimi and sushi options prepared with modern flair—a platter of blowtorched aburi sushi ($27) is a popular order—and the freshest available ingredients. A shortlist of bistro items ranging from smoked salmon salad ($14) to miso-marinated pork loin ($16) adds an Asian-fusion twist to the proceedings.  —Craig Moy
