The makeover of Market Street, a long-neglected little boulevard parallel to the St. Lawrence Market, is now complete. A passion project of late real estate developer Paul Oberman (also known for his work revitalizing Old Town’s Gooderham “Flatiron” Building), the block connecting Front Street to the Esplanade is now a cobblestone promenade lined by seven food-focused tenants.

• Inspired by Spain’s culinary traditions, but not beholden to them, Barsa Taberna serves up eclectic tapas—and wine, of course—in a designer space that nods to the aesthetics of Picasso, Dali and Gaudi.
• The second Toronto location of Montreal-based gourmet retailer Olive & Olives specializes in—you guessed it—olive oils (predominantly from Spain), as well as balsamic, sherry and wine vinegars, plus select products for the pantry.
• Scratch-made contemporary takes on Northern Indian classics, including nearly a dozen tandoori dishes, are the focus at stylish Bindia.
• The sit-down spin-off of popular food truck and St. Lawrence Market stall Buster’s Sea Cove, Market Street Catch serves up numerous fried and grilled fish and seafood, plus signature offerings like fish tacos and lobster poutine.
• Healthy eating features heavily at Evolution Food Co., a casual eatery offering customizable meals featuring various grains, greens and proteins. Smoothies, cold-pressed juices and a Greek yogurt bar make it a great breakfast spot, too, for on-the-go downtowners.
•Balzac’s, known for its artisanal approach to coffee roasting and the Old World vibe of its cafés (there are now 5 in Toronto), is perfect for the restored heritage building in which it’s located.
• Anchoring Market Street’s south end is the stylish Italian eatery Pastizza, which, true to its titular portmanteau, serves a well-honed menu of pastas (including a 12-layer lasagna) and pizzas, plus a few meatier mains.
