Add another flavour to the diverse list of restaurants on the increasingly cosmopolitan and already very fashionable King West strip. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Italian Buca, pan-Asian Lee and Euro beer hall Wvrst, chef-owner Steve Gonzalez’s Valdez serves up modish Latin American street fare in a boisterous, colourfully industrial dining room—or on the rooftop patio, if you’re lucky enough to grab a seat. In keeping with current trends, the menu divides its attention between toothsome mains and smaller shareable dishes. Where to start? A flight of Gonzalez’s ceviches gives your table something to talk about, then move on to fajitas, fried rice and duck confit chaufa, and whole steamed branzino. —Craig Moy
