Get into the island groove with the rhythmic tones of calypso, soca, reggae and chutney music during Scotiabank Caribana. This beloved annual celebration of all things Caribbean—not just music but crafts, cuisine and, of course, carnival time—wraps up this month. The main attraction, a parade of more than 20 bands, shimmering, skimpy costumes and insanely elaborate headpieces, happens August 2. The route starts at Exhibition Place and, over several hours, wends its way west on Lake Shore Boulevard. De Caribana Island Lime, a family-friendly festival of carnival arts and “liming” (or hanging out with friends) takes over Olympic Island from noon to 8 p.m. on August 3.
