Previously available to Canadians only by catalogue, online or through visits south of the border, J. Crew, the American brand renowned for its preppy-casual separates, has opened its first much-anticipated Canadian outpost here in Toronto. The 5,000-square-foot space is serene in white, ivory and birch, but classic separates in an array of candy colours provide ample pop. The stock, however—including sweaters, button-up shirts, jackets, chinos, capris, jodhpurs, footwear, jewellery and handbags—is strictly for women. The almost 30-year-old company is best known for its trademark cashmere cardigans. Beloved by the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the versatile sweater can be paired with a skirt, jeans, capris or skinny pants.
