Hot Dining: Very Fine English Fare at the Grove

The Grove plates much finer than typical English food

Until recently, a Toronto diner desiring English cuisine (yes, such cravings do exist) was limited to visiting one of a few pubs. Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with bangers and mash or steak and kidney pie, but chef Ben Heaton knows that U.K. cooking can be so much more. At The Grove, he offers a smartly minimal menu of nouveau Brit dishes, from parsley root soup with snails, bacon and fried bread ($9) to such seasonal mains as white fish with bacon, smoked tomatoes and fava beans ($19). It being summer and all, be sure to finish off your meal with that quintessential English cocktail, the Pimms Cup ($10).
