Hot Dining: Drink Up at Eight

A few sips of wine and a bite of something savoury can go a long way toward relieving the stress of a hectic day. It’s easy to unwind at Eight Wine Bar, an urbane nook for convivial conversation, contemporary cuisine and the fruits of the vine. Sommelier Sheila Person oversees an extensive wine list that highlights hard-to-find vintages, while executive chef Shane Straiko’s complementary, locally sourced small plates, such as duck confit samosas ($10) and black truffle ricotta gnocchi ($12), ensure even more pleasure for your palate. Friday nights add further oenophilic delight: from 5 to 9 p.m., wine-lovers can sample Person’s “buck an ounce” specials in three-, five- and eight-ounce pours.
