Hot Art: OCAD Shows Off Pictures and Books

Gary Taxali’s The Official Language

JULY 6 TO OCTOBER 6 The interplay between visual art and literary expression goes far beyond the design of book covers. Today, the printed word—in everything from novels to magazine articles to websites—is often linked with graphic design, illustration and even photography in cross-disciplinary packages that are greater than the sum of their individual media. Onsite [at] OCAD University explores this intersection of practices and products in its Letter Rip! exhibition. Featuring the work of top Toronto-based artists and designers complemented by a showcase of niche publications from venerable local bookstore The Monkey’s Paw, the display offers further evidence of the ongoing and highly fruitful marriage of images and words.
