Get More Mexican at El Catrin in the Distillery District

Mexican eateries, and particularly hip, boisterous taquerias, have been one of Toronto’s trendier dining concepts for more than a year now. While recently opened El Catrin may be a little late to the party, it’s hardly riding on anyone’s coattails. Taking over a vast Distillery District heritage building, the restaurant’s owners spared no expense in creating a statement space for classically trained Mexican chef Olivier Le Calvez’s authentic yet modern fare. Focus your attention on the enormous, colourful feature mural before digging into your ceviches, tacos and tostadas, or swagger over to the bar for some signature tequila-based cocktails.  —Craig Moy
