Fidel Gastro’s Matt Basile Opens Lisa Marie Restaurant

Matt Basile made his name as a “rebel without a kitchen,” serving up unexpected sandwich concoctions first as a pop-up vendor and then from his Fidel Gastro’s food truck. Now he’s made the leap to full-blown restaurateur: his standalone space, Lisa Marie, opened this spring, and immediately gained a following for its scrappy-slick atmosphere and easy-eating fare. Though Basile has kept his signature sammies on his truck, street food aficionados still get their fill from a menu of tapas-like cicchetti—novel, flavour-forward small plates like deep-fried pizza with smoked duck or meatballs, puttanesca-sauced ahi tuna rolls, and bacon-wrapped beef carpaccio with kimchi. –Craig Moy
