The visual and culinary arts combine at Frank (317 Dundas St. W., 416-979-6648), the new restaurant at the Art Gallery of Ontario that’s intended to indulge all your senses. Named with a nod to AGO architect Frank Gehry, the upscale yet unpretentious space is a feast for the eyes with Danish-designed furnishings and tableware, Douglas fir paneling (a Gehry hallmark), a floor-to-ceiling showcase wine cellar and masterful works on display by Joyce Wieland, Paterson Ewen and Frank Stella. A menu highlighting fresh, locally sourced ingredients provides ample palate pleasure through such contemporary comfort cuisine as duck leg confit with pan-seared duck livers ($22), braised beef shortribs with open-faced ravioli ($22), and wild boar loin chop ($28)—all artfully presented in a manner befitting one of Canada’s most exceptional galleries.
