Big in Japan, Muji is Now in Toronto

POPULAR JAPANESE RETAILER MUJI BRINGS THOUSANDS OF NO-NONSENSE FASHION, HOUSEHOLD AND OFFICE ITEMS TO ITS FIRST STORE IN CANADA

Muji Toronto Japan Store

Canadians can satisfy a yen for minimalist Japanese household goods at Muji. There are more than 500 locations in Japan and elsewhere; even still, the opening of the company’s first Canuck outpost drew long line ups. Beloved for its products’ practicality, affordability and no-frills packaging—in Japanese the word muji means “no brand quality goods”—most pieces come in a muted or natural palate of white, clear, frosted, wood or steel. Though it’s not a store for big-ticket items, Muji’s offerings still number in the thousands. Among them are kitchen and bath products, bedding, storage containers, beauty products, toys, travel items including luggage, stationery and apparel for both men and women. Open daily.  —Linda Luong
