You are cordially invited to join Laurie Hughes, publisher of Where Winnipeg, on June 27, 2012, as she recognizes Assiniboine Park Zoo, with its recent additions of Toucan Ridge, Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden, the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre and Birds in Flight, as the 2012 Silver Plume Attraction of the Year, chosen annually by the regional editors of Where. The Silver Plume Award recognizes outstanding service in the local hotel and hospitality industry.
Assiniboine Park Zoo has completed two new attractions as part of a $120 million expansion plan to be completed in 2014. This year’s makeover phase actualized a South American tropical house of lush, jungle vegetation showcasing species such as Caiman crocodiles, a 2,000-square-foot enclosed butterfly garden with more than 700 winged creatures, a live action birds of flight show and an educational International Polar Bear Conservation Centre.
The plaque will be presented at Where Winnipeg’s 21st annual Silver Plume Awards, an afternoon celebration of hotel and hospitality excellence. Every year the event is held at the selected top attraction.
Join us at Assiniboine Park Zoo’s Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden from 2 to 4 pm on Wednesday, June 27. This is an ideal photo/story opportunity to salute our city’s tourism industry. Photos of the event and winners to follow.
