From town, drive 10 min up Spray Lakes Rd past the Nordic Centre to White Man’s Pass (2168 m/7113 ft). The pass that was named by local Natives for a Jesuit missionary in 1845 was officially bestowed by the Palliser expedition in 1865. Just past the gap is a panoramic view of Canmore and the Fairholme Range. Drive further to a stunning wilderness where cross-country skiers, dogsledders and ice fishers play. — Jennifer Groundwater
