Eco-Bus

Photo by JOHN MARRIOTT/TOWN OF BANFF

Making “Roam” Canada’s first low-emission, fuel-efficient, all-hybrid transit system cost Banff an additional $970,000, but Town Councillor Stavros Karlos believes that “it’s important we consider the environmental impact of our decisions.” After all, the town resides in a national park and Unesco World Heritage Site. GPS displays at 10 stops show when the next bus will arrive, and fare boxes accept CND and US currency plus tokens and smartcards (buy at Banff Town Hall, 110 Bear St). In winter, buses runs on two routes every 40 minutes. $2, sen $1, ch $1, -5 free; tokens $1.50. — Lisa Stephens
