Where List: Best Jewellery Boutiques

Just in time for the holidays, here is our roundup of some of the most unique jewellery shops in Canada. We asked our Editors to find hidden gems–independent boutiques filled with dazzling Canadian diamonds, hand-crafted works by local artists and vintage-inspired accessories.

Beautiful baubles of all shapes and sizes are available ready-made or custom-designed at Made You Look. Two locations (across the street from one another) in Toronto’s creative West Queen West neighbourhood feature handcrafted designs from more than 100 independent, local jewellery makers, some of whom work right on-site. Stop by to browse the unique formal jewellery and funky accessories, and listen to the clink and clang of anvils and mandrels operated by the designers.

Plaid Giraffe is a funky accessory boutique located on eclectic Whyte Avenue, with a diverse array of Canadian designers’ jewellery in a variety of colours, designs and materials. Whether you’re looking for something with a retro, classic, minimalist or boho-chic flare, Plaid Giraffe is sure to carry it. And with most jewellery priced at under $20, it’s affordable enough for you to buy more than one piece at a time. 10340 – 82 Ave, 780-439-6195.

From hand-crafted designs using the finest cultured pearls and unique coloured stones to beautiful Pandora charm bracelets, Barclay’s Fine Custom Jewellers is the local specialist in custom creations. The boutique-style jewellery store features an exclusive line of Polar Bear Diamonds, Italian gold jewellery, Tissot watches and more.

Magpie Jewellery carries a host of hand-crafted pieces from Canadian and international designers; look for simple, unique lines like Pyrrha necklaces, which are cast from authentic 19th century wax seals. Best of all, this store was designed with a range of styles and budgets in mind, so a pair of funky silver earrings can start as low as $20.

Old World designs meet New World techniques at Fireworks Gallery on Barrington Street. This unique jewellery boutique is a gem in its own right, specializing in custom designs (using Canadian diamonds and recycled gold), and talented goldsmiths work on site. The selection also includes artisan jewellery in antique and modern designs from Canadian, American and Italian designers, plus simple sterling silver pieces.

Canadian Rockies

Canmore’s Rudi Peet, Goldsmith is a great place to purchase fine jewellery. His contemporary, fluid and award-winning designs are inspired by nature. Rudi creates his stunning pieces in gold or silver with gems from around the world including Canadian diamonds. Better yet, have Rudi custom design your meaningful masterpiece.

Locals head to Ruby Tuesday Accessories for a stylish selection of rings, necklaces, earrings and more.

Blue Ruby
stocks a wide range of brilliant baubles designed by both Canadian and International designers and it was voted best place to shop for jewellery in Where Vancouver’s 2010 Where to Shop awards.

There are always unique hand-crafted pieces to gawk over at Influx Jewellery Gallery in Art Central. Carrying only Canadian designed and made accessories, you can be sure to find one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings in a range of prices.

At Bijou, husband and wife team Leonie Coulson and Ashiq Katoo pour their love into creating sophisticated and often unexpected bling.
