Where Victoria | Hot Shopping

Hot-Shopping-Quest-for-the-Crown-Thomas-3Kids’ Stuff

Whether it’s toys for under the tree or the sports essentials for kids’ winter activities, Victoria boasts a variety of shops with the younger set in mind.

In the heart of downtown, the Bay at the Bay Centre offers a large toy section, in addition to multiple floors of children’s clothing, gifts and seasonal specialties. Other good choices for toys include Target, recently opened a few minutes from downtown in the Tillicum Centre, and independent toy shops Kaboodles, on Government Street, and Buddies Toys, in Oak Bay’s charming Estevan Village and in downtown Sidney.

In town for a  tournament? Sports enthusiasts will want to check out Sport Chek, also at the Bay Centre, as well as two favourites for local athletes, Sports Traders, in Old Town, and Kirby’s Source for Sports, a must for hockey, lacrosse and baseball enthusiasts.

Looking for something a little different for that hard-to-buy-for hockey fan? Jade Gallery and Gift Shop has just the thing in this jade inuksuk hockey sculpture.
Of course, you’ll also find beautiful hand-crafted cuff links, desk accessories, jewellery and much more in store – definitely worth a visit!

To Market, To Market

The long-awaited opening of the Victoria Public Market has had local foodies in culinary heaven.

Located in the historic Hudson building, the long-time home of the Hudson’s Bay Company, visitors will love the delicious possibilities of shops like the Victoria Pie Company, selling both sweet and savoury delights, Roast Carvery, with fresh-roasted meats for sandwiches or to take away, French Oven Bakery and Island Spice Company.

Not-to-miss stops include Salt Spring Island Cheese, with its spectacular array of locally made, melt-in-your mouth goat cheese, and Olive the Senses, a sensory delight where shoppers can taste the delicately flavoured oils and balsamic vinegars before choosing their favourites to enjoy at home.

Pick up something yummy to take out or stop for lunch at Smoken Bones, one of Victoria’s premier barbecue joints.

Visit the market Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30am to 6:30pm and Sundays from 9:30am to 5pm, or see www.victoriapublicmarket.com for more details.

Celebrate the Season – year-round!

Victoria’s Original Christmas Village is certainly a popular destination leading up to the holidays, but the store welcomes visitors year-round. With shelves upon shelves of holiday decorations and keepsakes, including many European treasures, this is a must for those looking to take home a little Christmas cheer from their Victoria vacation.
