How to Celebrate the City of Victoria’s 150th Birthday

Happy Birthday, Victoria! It’s been 150 years since the incorporation of the City of Victoria on August 2, 1862, and my what a 150 years it’s been! In celebration of the historic milestone, the City of Victoria has planned a series of events and activities. Check them out, after the jump.

July 29

Fort Victoria Family Festival and Fort Building Competition. From 11am to 3pm in Centennial Square, teams will let their creativity run wild as they build their own forts. Non-builders will enjoy an afternoon of music, historical stories, tours and activity stations.

August 2

Anniversary day events include a public ceremony at 11am in Centennial Square, then from noon to 6pm, 150Forward Community Celebration is a free, family-friendly party in the square with costumed performers, refreshments and cake. The mainstage show will entertain with performances showcasing the city’s history and diverse cultures. Contribute to the time capsule and anniversary greetings, take part in interactive fun, enjoy local cuisine and much more.

August 6

City United! anniversary celebration and concert, noon to 6pm on the grounds of historic St. Ann’s Academy, steps from the Inner Harbour. Take in family activities, live music, entertainment, crafts, cooking and gardening demonstrations and more before Juno Award-winners Digging Roots headline a free concert at Cameron Bandshell at 7pm.
