The city’s newest public course, and very popular with locals, the 18-hole Highland Pacific “was created for golfers who want to enjoy a scenic, challenging championship golf course that is playable all year round.” The course features the Pacific Nine and the Highland Nine, plus a driving range for warm-up and a well-stocked pro-shop with Calloway rental clubs. Bear Mountain Golf Resort
Bear Mountain definitely ranks among the city’s premiere locations. Not only does it boast two fine Jack and Steve Nicklaus co-designed courses carved into the mountain overlooking the city, but the resort is also home to a Westin hotel, fine dining, a Santé spa and the Mountainside Athletic Centre. The two challenging 18-hole courses cover diverse terrain and offer spectacular views from their place atop an 1,100-foot mountain overlooking the city. Olympic View Golf Club
The 18-hole, par-72 championship Olympic View Golf Club course is just a short drive from downtown in the West Shore community of Colwood. Offering a picturesque, 6,534 yards nestled into West Coast forest, Olympic View has been one of the city’s premier golf destinations since its opening in 1996. A member of Golf BC, whose other courses include Arbutus Ridge a little farther north on the Island, Olympic View’s amenities include a well-stocked pro shop and a fine restaurant and lounge overlooking the course. Cordova Bay Golf Course
Built in 1991, the full-service championship Cordova Bay Golf Course offers year-round golf for all abilities from a picturesque course in one of Victoria’s most charming neighbourhoods, plus a fully equipped pro shop, driving range and dining facilities. Book a tee time at 250-658-4444.
Cedar Hill Golf Course
One of several municipal courses in the region, the popular Cedar Hill Golf Course offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy top-quality golf and a picturesque location without leaving the city. An attractive, 5,000-yard par 67 course, Cedar Hill features a fully stocked pro shop, rentals, lessons and driving range. Call 250-475-7151.
A TEE-TIME SPLURGE
Looking for a splurge? Check for an available tee time at two of Victoria’s historic private clubs, where limited times are available for visitors: Uplands Golf Club in Oak Bay (call 250-592-1818) and Victoria Golf Club (call 250-598-4322).
Royal Oak Golf Course
Winding through a residential townhouse community, the picturesque Royal Oak Golf Course features a challenging terrain punctuated with forest and water features. Just a short drive from town in the neighbourhood of Royal Oak, the course includes several longer holes a well as a series of par-3s. Travelling with little ones or non-golfers? Boasting one of the best views in the city, overlooking Haro Strait, the Ridge is a nine-hole par-3 sister course to the Cordova Bay Golf Course across the road, and perfect for a challenging short game. An 18-hole putting green and food facilities are on site. Call 250-658-3996.
Prospect Lake Golf Club
Tucked into the trees along one of the city’s prettiest lakes, Prospect Lake Golf Course has welcomed players since 1964. The course has five par-4s and four par-3s, rolling fairways, challenging greens and a charming rural ambience, along with a restaurant and patio overlooking the lake and pro shop with rentals available. Ardmore Golf Course
Farther out on the Saanich Peninsula, the pretty rural Ardmore Golf Course has long been a favourite among locals for its rolling fairways and pastoral feel. Call 250-656-4621.
Metchosin Golf & Country Club
The region’s West Shore is home to fine championship play, but also a few smaller courses, including the lovely nine-hole Metchosin Golf & Country Club course, set into the rolling hills of the Metchosin countryside. Golf of the Mini Variety
Prefer your golf of the “mini” variety? Victoria also boasts a few excellent mini-golf facilities, led by Blenkinsop Valley Adventure Golf, a short drive from downtown. In addition to the beautifully landscaped facilities, you’ll also find an excellent driving range—the open top floor is gorgeous on a sunny day—and full pro shop.
For those too-hot summer days, the shady Mattick’s Farm mini-golf is another good choice.
