There’s lots of kids stuff on Vancouver’s waterfront, so we suggest spending the day snapping photos of your kids as they run through the waves, build castles in the sand and slurp ice cream off their hands. Afterwards, head to the Make gift store on Granville Island, where you can turn those photographed memories into a custom-printed t-shirt. Let your kids design a funky button while you’re at it!

Let imaginations run wild at Kidsbooks, a spacious shop that claims to be the largest children’s book store in Canada. Little ones learn to count with the help of colourful characters, and babies giggle with delight over pop-up books with finger puppets. There’s even stuff for older kids and tweens at this Vancouver shop. We recommend stocking up on hard-to-find and award-winning reading material or coming by for one of the regular visits by well-known authors.
