This year marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, with re-enactments, tours, parades and other events taking place at historic military sites throughout Ontario, Quebec and the US.
Battles will be re-enacted close to the days they originally took place, which means that commemorative events are scheduled through 2015.
The Canadian federal government also plans to erect a permanent 1812 memorial in Ottawa (admittedly a part of Canada untouched by the war in question) and to refurbish some historic sites, such as Toronto’s Fort York.
For more information, visit the Official War of 1812 Bicentennial Website. Parks Canada national historic sites will be scheduling individual events as well.
