Ottawa International Airport was rated the top North American airport and the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport was rated the best regional airport in North America in the Airports Council International’s annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards.
Other Canadian frontrunners: Montreal’s Trudeau Airport took first place in the most-improved category for North America and Halifax Stanfield Airport ranked third best in North America.
The best airport in the world was awarded to Korea’s Seoul Incheon Airport.
The ASQ Awards are based on a passenger satisfaction survey, conducted in-person while passengers are at the airport, prior to boarding their flights. More than 350,000 passengers were surveyed in 2011.
Not all airports participate in the survey, however; and are therefore not eligible for the award. One of these is Vancouver International Airport, which won Best Airport in North America at the 2011 World Airport Awards. Larger than the ASQ Awards, the World Airport Awards surveys 11 million travellers worldwide.
