On her lifestyle blog Goop, actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently shared some “surviving-the-flight” travel tips with readers, with help from Australian magazine editor and food stylish Donna Hay and talent manager Seth Friedman.
Moisturizing is high on the list of priorities for Paltrow and Hay—both recommend lotions and facial creams. Paltrow’s carry-on must-haves also include rinse-free hand wash (no Purell for her—she opts for Aesop’s Resurrection, $13 at from Aesop), colloidal silver spray to eliminate germs, and supplements like Pure Essence Labs Ionic-Fizz Calcium Plus (US$31.19 from eVitamins.com). And, says Hay, opt to fly on an Airbus A380 as their cabins are “much less drying” than those on other planes.
Friedman chimes in with what are probably the most practical tips, like how to avoid long waits when entering the U.S. by joining the Global Entry program, which pre-screens passengers so you can use a kiosk to clear customs. (Canada has a similar Automated Border Clearance program.) And rather than suggesting, rather unhelpfully, as Paltrow does, to pick up a miso soup at the airport to counteract radiation (apparently we are not frequenting the right airports, unless there’s a miso soup stand hiding between the Sbarro and Tim Hortons?), Friedman recommends packing fruit and Larabars.
