Wi-Fi was reported to be the most important hotel amenity by travellers who participated in a recent TripAdvisor survey. After Wi-Fi, the most important amenities in the eyes of travellers were:
- free breakfast
- guest loyalty points
- shuttle to area attractions and airports
Alternatively, the five least important amenities to travellers were:
- turndown services
- pets allowed
- room service
TripAdvisor’s 360 Degree Survey garnered responses from 1,248 travellers and 622 hotel representatives in the U.S.
The survey showed some disconnect between what hotel owners or managers and travellers find most or least important. Only 38% of hotel owners/managers rated “pets allowed” as one of the least important amenties, while 85 per cent of travellers found it unimportant. And a shuttle service—either to the airport or nearby attractions—was rated significantly more important by travellers than by hotel owners and managers.
In a Hotels.com survey last month, travellers also placed emphasis on the importance of free Wi-Fi in hotels, though only 38 per cent considered it a “must”.
And if hoteliers can take a hint, they might start adding or improving on top wish-list items like happy hours, in-room iPads and more free bottled water.
