This weekend, the Old Strathcona neighbourhood of Edmonton will be overflowing with art thanks to two major summer events! Sand on Whyte, which runs through July 10, welcomes award-winning artists from around the world to sculpt magnificent, giant sand creations just off the avenue. Visit the festival more than once, as you can watch the artists work and the sculptures take shape throughout the weekend.
The annual Whyte Ave. Art Walk will also be taking place in the heart of Old Strathcona from July 8 to 10. This fantastic event creates an outdoor gallery and studio with hundreds of working artists. You can stroll along the avenue to admire the diverse selection of art, watch art being made, and purchase affordable, original pieces from local artists.
Throw in a visit to the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market on Saturday from 8 am – 3 pm, where on top of buying some fresh produce and local goods, you can also hear live music from busking performers. —Matthew Stepanic
