Edmonton Opera Presents: Aida

Aida

Presented by the Edmonton Opera, this inspired tale of ancient Egypt, jealousy, loyalties, and forbidden passion showcases composer Giuseppe Verdi — it is the 200th anniversary of his birth — at the height of his creative powers. Elaborate costumes, and huge cast of over 100 performers,  accompanies exhilarating, haunting orchestral music. From the seductive slave dances to the hauntingly heart-rendering finale, this is one of the most memorable shows in opera.

Worried you won’t understand the show? Never fear! A screen above the stage displays a translation of the score, which makes this performance more accessible to audiences unfamiliar with opera or with this story.

October 19 (8 pm), 21 (2 pm), 23 (7:30 pm), 25 (7:30 pm); Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (11455-87 Ave). Tickets required; $60 – $150, available online or by calling 780-429-1000. Guests can receive a 20%-off discount on tickets to the Sunday, October 21 (2 pm) performance by mentioning the special-offer code “Opera Notes”.
