From July 25 – 28, the Calgary Folk Music Festival showcases a plethora of musical acts covering folk, roots and rock genres. See a variety of local and Canadian musical acts as well as international performers this weekend. Where Calgary staff share what they’re most looking forward to at this year’s festival.

“I’ll be heading straight to Apache Talk Tent for spoken word performances, artist interviews and comedy acts, including Calgary’s own Mixtape Improv and a panel called Women at Work about female success in male-dominated mediums like comedy.” – Rachel Frey, intern

“This year’s Calgary Folk Music Festival is going to be fantastic! So many great acts to see including mainstage acts Alabama Shakes Thursday night at 8:50 pm, Bahamas on Friday night at 6 pm, and Steve Earle on Saturday night at 8:50 pm. The act I am most looking forward to seeing however is Elliott BROOD, on Saturday at 10 pm on stage 4. Their album Mountain Meadows is one of my all-time favorites.” – Brian French, publisher

“There are almost too many acts to choose from this year. The festival’s programming is always top notch and this year stretches beyond the folk genre to cover some of my favourite musical acts like indie rockers M. Ward (playing Thursday night on the mainstage at 7:35 pm) and Kurt Vile (playing on the mainstage Sunday night at 7:45 pm).”  – Adele Brunnhofer, assistant editor

“I’m hoping to catch Hayden’s main stage performance Friday evening. I have been a fan for many years and saw him perform at the first 19+ show I attended, many, many years ago. Also, if you’re a fan of Hayden, be sure to check out M. Ward (half of the indie duo She & Him) Thursday night as well.” – Erin Legere, graphic designer

“The best thing about Folk Fest is discovering a new favourite artist or two by accident. I try not to find out too much about who’s playing before hand so I can be surprised. I also love looking at the art market, which showcases the work of so many talented people.” – Veronica Cowan, art director and production manager
