Top 5 Sushi Bars

Local food critic John Gilchrist lists off the best places to find this Japanese delicacy in Calgary.
1. Sushi Bar Zipang
Some of the most well-prepared and precisely cut sushi in the city is constructed at Bridgeland’s Zipang—no shortcuts here (1010 – 1 Ave NE).

2. Blowfish
Sleek and modern, and straddling the world of traditional and contemporary sushi, Blowfish satisfies (625 – 11 Ave SW).

3. Globefish
Globefish started with one location and when it got too popular they opened a second. Now they’re both packed. Globefish has perhaps the most creative sushi in town (326 – 14 St NW; 2009 – 33 Ave SW).

4. Sushi Club
If you want experienced sushi-makers cutting your fish, they don’t get any better than Koki Miyashita and Katsuya Inoue of Sushi Club; a Kensington mainstay for years (1240 Kensington Rd NW).

5. Shikiji
Big on the noodles and soups of Japan, Shikiji also wields a mean sushi knife. Plus its Centre Street location makes it a perfect stop for a little sushi to go (1608 Centre St NE).
