Hot Date: Kensington’s Sun and Salsa Festival

This Sunday, Kensington brings heat to the street for its fun outdoor Sun and Salsa Festival. Attendees are invited to wander the neighbourhood’s many shops and boutiques while sampling over 25 salsas lovingly prepared by a variety of the area’s businesses. Festival-goers can purchase a bag of tortilla chips ($3 for one, $5 for two) with which they can sample each salsa. Once they’ve sampled the lot, tasters vote for the best of the bunch.

Last year’s winner, Vero Bistro, returns to compete against some inventive competitors. Oolong Tea House is known to infuse its salsa with various loose teas and Greek restaurant Broken Plate adds feta cheese to its recipe for a unique Mediterranean flavour.

The street festival runs from 11 am until 5 pm on Sunday. Portions of both 10 St SW and Kensington Road will be closed to traffic, with live musical and dance performances scheduled throughout the day. Admission is free.
