Tonight is the Cultural District’s monthly First Thursday event, wherein galleries in the downtown core open their doors for complimentary artist talks and receptions.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) hosts the opening reception for its new exhibit, A Night of Music & Art, featuring first nations multimedia works by Carl Beam and live music by Matt Masters. Event runs 4 pm until 9 pm, admission is free.
The EPCOR Centre’s Ledge Gallery hosts an artist’s reception for COLLECTIVE MINE: Prints and Multiples by artist Heather Kai Smith, from 5 pm until 8 pm. At the event, the gallery will be transformed into a functioning zine and print shop. Attendees are encouraged to sit for portraits and request designs. Admission is free.
The Art Gallery of Calgary plays host to Carl White’s current exhibit, Pentimento from 6 pm until 8 pm, admission is free.
The National Music Centre is holding a free tour of its renowned keyboard collection at 6 pm. Later on, Preshant Michael John will perform his blend of world, blues and folk music at the NMC at 8 pm, tickets are $15 at the door.
The monthly Calgary Art Walk sets up each month on Stephen Avenue Walk between First Street SE and Centre Street. The event features the work of various local artists. Around the corner at Art Central, the art hub’s three floors of studios and galleries are open to the public until 8 pm.
Wrap up the day at trendy new jazz club Wine-Oh’s (formerly Beat Niq and PiqNiq) with live music by Vancouver singer-songwriter Norine Braun beginning at 8 pm. Cover is $10.
