This Saturday, the annual Chinatown Street Festival takes place in the vibrant historic area between Centre Street and First Street SE and along Second Avenue and Third Avenue SE.
Savour the flavours of authentic Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese eats in the Dragon City Mall shopping complex or at one of the food booths located along Third Avenue. Merchant booths will also be set up along Third Avenue with various clothing, accessories and gifts for sale. Karaoke, tai chi and other demonstrations will be held along Second Avenue SE.
The event also features the new Back Alley Art Café. Hosted by the Calgary Chinese Community Service Association (CCCSA), the café invites local artists to showcase their work during the festival in the alley behind Canton Block (Centre Street and Second Avenue SE), an area that was part of a back alley art mural revitalization in 2011.
Cultural dance and music performances take place on Third Avenue’s TD Main Stage, 10 am until 6 pm.
The festival takes place in Chinatown and runs from 10 am until 8 pm. Admission is free. Parking is available for $2 at the James Short Parkade (115 – 4 Ave SW). – Sarah Sussman
