Get Outdoors

Even though it’s cold, there’s still plenty to do. Get on the ice at Olympic Plaza, created during the 1988 Winter Games, it offers daily family skating. Bowness Park’s lagoon also becomes a free skating rink with fire pits and music. If cross-country skiing is more for you, many of the city’s parks, including Bowness, have trails—check out Edworthy Park (256 Wildwood Dr SW) or Beaverdam Flats (62 Ave & 16 St SE). You can also downhill ski or snowboard down the half-pipe at Canada Olympic Park. For outdoor equipment rentals, visit the Outdoor Centre at the University of Calgary (220-5038).
